The Great Smoky Mountains
The National Park
HEAD FOR HIGHER GROUND.
Including the highest peaks in the Appalachian's Blue Ridge Mountains and the highest elevations east of the Mississippi, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park spans the Tennessee and North Carolina border for 70 miles. With more than 100 species of trees, 200 species of birds, 60 species of mammals, and elevations ranging from 840 feet to over 6,600 feet above sea level, the Smokies are one of the most diverse and fascinating ecosystems on the planet.

A sanctuary for history as well as nature, the National Park offers a wonderful array of cultural sites and historical landmarks dating back to the 19th century. History buffs will especially enjoy Cades Cove with its log cabins, centuries-old churches and authentic working grist mill.

Everyone has their own favorite way of experiencing the beauty of the Park. By car or bicycle, you can enjoy one of its historical or natural road tours. Explore the Park's numerous well-marked trails and discover hidden waterfalls and secret vistas by horseback, or from the ground level up as a hiker — by far the most popular way to connect with this incredible national treasure.
